George Gabriel

Candidate for District 5 Board of Commissioners

I would like to announce my candidacy for the vacant seat for District #5, Board of Commissioners. I am a Republican conservative and will do everything I can to keep taxes down by attracting industry and retail businesses.

I was born and raised in Oglethorpe County and am very proud to boast about it. I am a Christian and a member of Crawford Baptist Church. I’ve always been active in the community and thrived for its betterment.

In January, 2004, I was elected Chief of the Devils Pond Volunteer Fire Department; and I completely turned it around. It’s now something that the community can be proud of. When I was elected chief, the Fire Department had only one old brush truck with only 950 gallons of water to fight a fire with. The Fire Department now has a new building (with a small mortgage) and the brush truck (with the help of a Federal grant) has a brand new 1,250 gallon-a-minute 2008 pumper and a 1,500 gallon capacity tanker. All it needed was leadership and the help of a generous community. I am proud to say, we’ve achieved both. (Thanks, community).

I work for the University of Georgia’s Physical Plant and was elected to represent all of the Physical Plant on the Staff Representative Group, a group that meets once a month for the betterment of the work place (salaries, benefits, safety, etc.).

Let’s trust God and, with your help in July, we can make District 5 a better place to live (or should I say, the "Best Place" to live in the county). Support me, and I will support you, "The Taxpayer" to the best of my ability.

Elect me, George Gabriel, to District 5, Board of Commissioners.
